5 Hairstyles for Busy Moms That Make it Look Like You Tried

There comes a time in life when parenting becomes easier, the kids are more independent, and you have more time to look like- and feel like- your old self again. Until that day comes, we have a few tips to help you- or your hair, that is- look more put together, even if you don’t necessarily feel like it.

The braided bun

This sounds simple but, really, you have oh so many options here. Where’s the braid gonna go? On the top to hold back your bangs (Do moms have bangs?)? On the side? Both sides? Or maybe underneath just to make people wonder how you did that. Basically, all you’re doing here is adding a touch of detail to the ever so common mom-bun or “messy bun” as they call it. At first glance, it might appear like your run-of-the-mill mom-bun, but wait until onlookers do a double-take realizing that, yes, you stuck a sneaky braid in there. Way to bring beauty out of the ashes, Mama.

The half up-do

Again, we have options. This style works great with a bit of dry shampoo and 3rd day hair, giving you exactly the volume you need to pull off this look. The options are endless for how you choose to tie this one off. Are you going to go with the bold yet stylish top-knot? No one will be questioning your sense of style. Or maybe you’re feeling the colors of the wind with a wispy boho braid anchoring down those fly-aways? And then again, if you’re short on time, you could simply pull it back into a my little pony tail.

The single side braid

Have you worn your hair in a bun 8 days in a row and are starting to worry that no one thinks you shower? BUT, does having your hair dangling in your face drive you mad as you pick up, wrestle, and chase after littles?  The side braid is the answer. Leave your hair down but swoop up one side and tie it back in a braid that says, “Yes, I’m a mom who’s not afraid to wear my hair down, but I’m not messing around, either!”

The baseball cap

Yes, yes, we know wearing a hat isn’t exactly a hairstyle in and of itself, but it can sure as heck save you 10 precious minutes of sleep in the morning. The best part? Let all the other moms believe you’re totally sporty. Maybe you are, maybe you’re not. Just let the hat do the talking.

The side bun

So maybe this used to be a top knot that got pulled to the side when your toddler decided to climb on your head. We won’t tell anyone. It’s a side bun now and that’s what it’s always been. Look elegantly on-purpose with this classy side piece that makes every outfit loot a little more posh.
